Gibraltar’s National Teams Prepare For Summer Tournaments

Gibraltar will be represented across three sports this week, with national squads heading overseas for competitions.

A statement from the Government follows below:

Summer is a busy period for National representative squads, and this week is the turn of Cricket, Hockey and Darts 

The Senior National Cricket squad is in Svanholm, Denmark for the ICC Europe Sub Regional Qualifier B where they will face competition from Belgium today and subsequently Romania and Serbia. 

The Men’s and Women’s National Hockey Squads left yesterday to Helsinki, Finland where they will compete in the EuroHockey Championship Qualifier II. The men will form part of Pool B and will face hosts Finland, Greece and Malta. The women will face Finland, Hungary and Luxembourg in the round robin phase of their competition. 

Finally, the Gibraltar Darts Association (GDA) Youth teams are in Limerick, Ireland to participate in the World Darts Federation (WDF) Europe Youth Cup 2026. The team will be involved in Teams, Pairs and Single events over the next few days. 

The Minister for Sport, the Hon Leslie Bruzon has wished all teams well. 

“It is great to see our Youth Darts players travelling abroad fresh off the success of the WDF events hosted locally last weekend. It is important to build on these successes, and international tournaments provide an excellent opportunity for development. 

As far as our full National squads are concerned, I am very pleased to see a sprinkling of new faces in the Cricket and Men’s and Women’s hockey squads. This shows that the development programmes of these two hard working associations are bearing fruit. Best of luck to the Hockey squads in Helsinki and the Cricket squad in Svanholm also.
