Jun 11 - New Service Launched For Adult Victims Of Childhood Abuse

As from 22nd June, Childline’s free telephone 8008 helpline and online service will be officially available to any adult who has suffered abuse during childhood. Over the years Childline has received many calls from adults suffering the long-term effects of past abuse, who are still trying to come to terms with the harm that has been done to them.

Apart from liaising with local agencies such as the Care Agency and the RGP, Childline Gibraltar has been working closely with the NSPCC and NAPAC (National Association for Persons Abused in Childhood) in setting up of this service.  The additional training required by staff and volunteers is being provided by a NAPAC trainer, at an internal training session sponsored by The Parasol Foundation due to be held on 16th June at the Rock Hotel.

Childline Gibraltar says that any form of abuse to children whether physical, sexual, emotional or neglect continues to haunt and harm victims in adulthood and every person has the right to overcome the impact of childhood abuse and enjoy a happy and fulfilled life.

The main aim of the new service is to enable and empower adult victims of childhood abuse to access the support they need, in order to make their own personal journey of recovery and heal their emotional wounds.

If you have suffered abuse as a child, as from 22nd June you can contact Childline Gibraltar for confidential assistance on their Freephone Helpline 8008 between 5 pm – 9pm or via their website www.childline.gi/need-help or by email on: This email address is being protected from spambots.
