Oct 27 - Three Romanians Jailed For Going Equipped For Theft
On Thursday the 22nd of October, CID officers arrested the following persons for the offence of Going Equipped for Theft.
- Laurentiu-Ionel DUMITRU aged 20 years, unemployed, a Romanian National
- Catalin CUCU aged 20 years, unemployed, a Romanian National.
- Andrei-Daniel ION aged 25 years, unemployed, a Romanian National.
This was as a result of a police operation during which all three were seen entering a number of establishments along Main Street and acting suspiciously. All three have since appeared in the Magistrate’s Court and on entering guilty pleas have been sentenced to three weeks imprisonment.
The defendants intended to use bags that were lined with aluminum, which would have allowed them to conceal stolen items from shops without triggering the alarm system.
The RGP says it is asking shop owners and staff to be vigilant and aware of this technique that is currently being used by thieves.
