Aug 19 - Guilty Pleas For Entering Gibraltar Illegally
Nine Moroccan nationals who were arrested and charged yesterday with illegally being in Gibraltar without having a valid licence or permit pleaded guilty at the Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The men, all aged between 21 and 35 years old have been remanded in custody pending removal proceedings.
It is believed they were trying to travel to Spain but ended up in Gibraltar due to bad weather at sea.
A Syrian national also appeared before the Magistrates this morning for being in Gibraltar without a valid permit.
He has put forward an application for asylum and has been released in the meantime.
A further man claiming to be of Italian or French nationality was also arrested with immigration offences. He has been remanded in custody until he is removed from Gibraltar.
