Feb 08 - Man Jailed For Dangerous Driving Following High Speed Police Chase
A 32-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison and disqualified from driving for 18 months following a high-speed police chase.
The case dates backs to March 2015, when Miguel Rojas was flagged down by an officer in a RGP car in the early hours of the morning. As he failed to stop, a police chase ensued through Edinburgh Estate, past Bishop Canilla House and up through Queensway. The chase ended when officers found tyre tracks leading into a warehouse where Rojas was found standing next to his black Suzuki Vitara.
Rojas pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving at the start of his trial and was sentenced at the Supreme Court this morning.
Lawyer Chris Miles said his client had shown remorse and admitted culpability, and urged the Acting Puisne Judge Liam Yeats to give his client a suspended sentence.
However, Mr Justice Yeats described this as a “high speed police chase” which put members of the public at risk.
Rojas was sentenced to five months in prison, reduced to four months for entering an early guilty plea, and had his driving license disqualified for 18 months.
Robert Fischel QC appeared for the Crown.
