GibSilver recently celebrated its first anniversary, marking a year since the service launched.

A statement from GibSilver follows below:

A year of friendship, connection and community support for older people in Gibraltar Befrienders Gibraltar Limited is proud to celebrate the first anniversary of GibSilver, its  dedicated service supporting older members of the Gibraltar community by tackling  loneliness and social isolation through listening, friendship and meaningful connections.

Since its launch on 7th July 2025, GibSilver has grown into a thriving community initiative,  providing telephone listening, befriending, social activities and opportunities for older  people to stay connected. The service has already made a significant difference to the lives  of many people across Gibraltar, thanks to the dedication of its volunteers and the continued  support of its partners and funders.

To mark this special milestone, GibSilver hosted a series of anniversary celebrations. On Monday, members, volunteers and supporters gathered at the weekly GibSilver Coffee  Morning at Pizza Express, where everyone enjoyed a special anniversary cake and celebrated  the friendships that have developed over the past year.

The celebrations continued Tuesday lunchtime with a special anniversary party at the  Waterport Day Centre, bringing together Day Centre attendees, many who receive weekly  befriending calls from our volunteers for an afternoon of food, companionship and  celebration.

The anniversary events concluded with a Volunteer Thank You BBQ, recognising the  incredible commitment of the volunteers who have helped make GibSilver such a success  over the past twelve months. Their kindness, compassion and generosity of time have  enabled countless older people to feel heard, valued and connected.

Brenda Cuby, CEO of Befrienders Gibraltar Limited, said:

"Celebrating the first anniversary of GibSilver is a wonderful milestone and an opportunity to  reflect on everything that has been achieved during the past year. What began as a vision to  reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst older people has become a vibrant  community built on friendship, compassion and connection.

I would like to sincerely thank every volunteer, supporter, partner organisation and  participant who has contributed to the success of GibSilver. Your commitment has made a  genuine difference to the lives of so many people.

As we celebrate this first anniversary, we also look to the future. We remain committed to  expanding the service, reaching more older people across Gibraltar and ensuring that  everyone knows they have someone to talk to and a community that cares."

The charity would also like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who has supported  GibSilver throughout its first year, including the organisations that have partnered with the  project, those who have provided funding and resources, and the many individuals who  have helped spread awareness of the service.

As GibSilver enters its second year, Befrienders Gibraltar Limited looks forward to continuing  to grow the service, developing new activities and reaching even more older people  throughout Gibraltar.
