Dec 04 - St Paul’s School Celebrates Humanities Day

For the past six weeks the children from St Paul’s School and Nursery have been involved with learning about different peoples, countries and history. The culmination of these first topics in the academic year traditionally ends with a fun day for all, which is the School’s Humanities Day.

Each Year Group dressed up and had activities according to their topic themes:

Nursery – Nursery rhymes

Nursery have been acting out their nursery rhymes and came to school dressed as their favourite Nursery Rhyme character. They also enjoyed a singing and role-play session.

Reception – People who help us

Reception have spent the past few weeks learning about people who help us in the community. On this day, the children dressed as Police officers, firemen, doctors, nurses, lollipop ladies and teachers. The children were also visited by the Royal Gibraltar Police in the morning. During lunchtime the children learnt the different roles dinner ladies carry out and helped them do their job.

Year 1 – Romans

Children in Year 1 came dressed as Romans. The children pretended to be Roman children in a Roman school. During the lunch hour they had a Roman banquet and tasted ‘Roman food’. In the afternoon the children became Gladiators, Emperors, Centurions and Roman Soldiers. They raced some chariots that they made themselves a few weeks ago and even fought a wild lion!

Year 2 – India

Children in Year 2 have been learning about India and the different traditions and customs that are found in India, (even though they might know some of them already). In the morning, the children rotated around different activities which included making Diwali lamps and cooking sweet coconut balls. During the lunch hour the children were able to taste a few different curries. In the afternoon the children then had lots of fun in different activities such as practicing yoga and making Rangoli designs on the floors and walls outside their classroom doors.

Year 3 – Neanderthals

Children in Year 3 have been learning about early man and how they lived in caves, hunted for their food and used fire to survive. They children all came to school dressed as Neanderthals and made their own caves, animals and even fossils, (out of clay of course). Year 3 children even had the opportunity to do their own cave paintings on the walls in St Paul’s school’s very own cave.
