Mar 30 - GFA Signs Coaching Partnership With Welsh Football Trust
The Gibraltar FA is delighted to announce a five year partnership with the Welsh Football Trust which will allow Gibraltarian Coaches to train and be assessed in Gibraltar, up to UEFA B level.
The details of the agreement are as follows:
The agreement spans a total of five years and follow's Gibraltar's admission as a signatory to the UEFA Coaching Convention at the B level in 2015. As a result of joining the Convention, the Football Association of Wales (FAW), through the Welsh Football Trust and under the auspices of UEFA, has offered to assist the GFA with its coach education requirements, and in particular in the context of the GFA's efforts to set up its own independent coach education structure.
The agreement will allow the WFT to train tutors in Gibraltar in order to create a pool of coaches who can deliver future FAW Level 1, FAW Level 2 and UEFA B courses in Gibraltar, meaning that in the near future Gibraltarian candidates will no longer have to travel abroad to undertake courses at these levels - they will be able to carry them out in Gibraltar.
The agreement will also allow Gibraltarian candidates to carry out UEFA A and UEFA Pro level coaching licenses in Wales, under the auspices of the WFT.
In addition, the agreement will allow the WFT to deliver, on behalf of the GFA, specialist goalkeeper coaching courses in Gibraltar for the first time.
A spokesman for the GFA said: "This is an extremely important step in the development of coach education in Gibraltar and is the first step in ensuring the future of Gibraltarian trained and Gibraltarian qualified coaches under the tutoring of the Gibraltar FA and the Football Association of Wales."
