Feb 07 – Regiment Holds Insight Weekend
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment recently held an Insight Weekend, the aim of which was to provide the public with an understanding of the role of the regiment. Twenty-three members of the public, between the ages of 17 and 42 years, attended the event.
Attendees were divided into three groups and were given guidance on how to work within their teams. Experienced instructors from the Regiment passed on their military experiences and the groups were taken through a two-day programme of activities. Those attending the weekend were able to see what the regiment has to offer - whether joining the Regulars (full-time) or Reserves (part-time) - making it a worthwhile and enjoyable weekend.
The weekend was comprised of many different activities: from command tasks, weapon and kit stands, basic military lessons (including observation posts and live firing) to sports and paintballing. All those attending received a detailed presentation of what life is like for a soldier in the RG – whether part of the Regulars or Reserves. All attending enjoyed the experience of working together as a team and were given information on the excellent career opportunities the Regiment has to offer.
Nicholas Rocca said: “It was a fantastic weekend and I would most definitely recommend it to my family and friends. I absolutely loved the fact we fired a real weapon on a range.’’
Benjamin Aubrey said: “I loved the whole weekend; the army has a lot more to offer than what I thought – an excellent career with a great wage, a really good structure to progress, with the chance to travel the world and see new places.”
Luke Lockwood said: “Action-packed weekend with loads of fun activities. I really enjoyed the night stalk. I can’t wait to join the Reserves and start my new exciting career with the Regiment.’’
The next Insight weekend will take place on 21 and 22 April 17, at Devils Tower Camp, starting on Friday at 1900 hours. Come along and give it a go!
