SSAFA Gibraltar Marks Armed Forces Week With Community Events

SSAFA Gibraltar is inviting the community to support Armed Forces Week, which will culminate on Saturday 27th June with the annual Armed Forces Day parade and Family Day at The Convent.
A statement from SSAFA follows below:
SSAFA Gibraltar is encouraging the whole community to come together this Armed Forces Week to recognise the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our country, while celebrating the unique Armed Forces community that makes Gibraltar such a special place.
Throughout the week, SSAFA Gibraltar will be supporting and participating in a programme of events culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June. The charity is inviting everyone to take part, show their support and help recognise those who serve, have served and the families who stand beside them.
Gibraltar is home to a unique defence community, where the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and the Royal Gibraltar Regiment work side by side in support of defence. Alongside them are military families, veterans, reservists, MOD civil servants, contractors and civilian colleagues, all contributing to Gibraltar's operational success and resilience.
"Armed Forces Week is about recognising the incredible commitment shown by those who serve and the families who support them," said Alan (Chair, SSAFA Gibraltar).
"Here in Gibraltar we have a truly unique defence community. Every day we see members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and the Royal Gibraltar Regiment working together alongside many others who help defence operate successfully. We are incredibly proud to support the serving personnel, veterans and military families who make up our Armed Forces community."
A Week of Celebration
SSAFA Gibraltar will be involved throughout the week, with several opportunities for the public to get involved.
On Friday 26 June, the charity will hold its annual SSAFA Gibraltar Flag Day, with volunteers raising awareness and collecting donations across the town centre. Visitors will also be able to browse a fantastic selection of handmade crafts and delicious homemade cakes created by members of the military community.
On Saturday 27 June, Gibraltar will mark Armed Forces Day with the annual parade through the city, followed by Family Day at The Convent, bringing military families together in celebration.
The week concludes with the return of the hugely successful Gibraltar Rocks Concert, a free evening of live music open to serving personnel, and those who work alongside defence in Gibraltar. While entry is free, donations are warmly welcomed to support SSAFA Gibraltar's work throughout the year.
Supporting Those Who Serve
While Armed Forces Week shines a spotlight on the military community, SSAFA Gibraltar's work continues every day of the year.
The charity provides practical, emotional and financial support to serving personnel, veterans and military families across Gibraltar, helping people through difficult times, reducing social isolation, strengthening community connections and ensuring that no member of the Armed Forces community faces life's challenges alone.
Remarkably, SSAFA Gibraltar is run entirely by volunteers.
Every welfare visit, community event, coffee morning, family activity and fundraising initiative is delivered by local volunteers who generously give their time in support of others.
However, this vital work depends entirely on the continued generosity of the community. "Everything we do is made possible through volunteers and donations," Alan added.
"Our volunteers are the heart of SSAFA Gibraltar, and every donation helps us continue supporting serving personnel, veterans and military families when they need us most. If you've ever thought about volunteering or would simply like to support us through a donation, Armed Forces Week is the perfect opportunity to get involved."
SSAFA Gibraltar is encouraging members of the public to support Flag Day, attend the Armed Forces Day events, enjoy the Gibraltar Rocks Concert and, if they can, consider volunteering with the charity. Together, we can celebrate those who serve and ensure that support remains available whenever our Armed Forces community needs it.
