Mar 07 - New FSC Head Pledges to Invest in Commission’s Staff

isola samantha barrass Welcoming recently appointed Financial Services Commission CEO, Samantha Barrass into her new position; Minister Albert Isola yesterday addressed a reception attended by members at the forefront of Gibraltar’s banking industry.  Mrs Barrass paid homage to former CEO Marcus Killick for handing over to her a ‘legacy that he should be proud of’. She also paid tribute to the staff of the FSC that she has been getting to know. She looked forward to the growth opportunities within the financial sector and aims to support the development and innovation in a way that builds confidence in the regulator, for being un-bureaucratic.

She insisted that one of her key priorities is strong investment in the Commission’s staff through both support and by bringing in more employees. She added that she wants to engage with the members of the industry and get to know their businesses.

Minister Isola then took the time to outline the Finance Centre's business plan for the foreseeable future. He detailed the recent re-branding and new website, as well as the centre's recent presence on social media. He also spoke of some of the crucial legislations that the team were working on, including, anti forced heirship, capital requirement directive, customer safeguard account, regulatory changes to pensions and the recently announced QNUPS legislation. He added that the centre will be hosting receptions similar to the lunch held annually during the Gibraltar Day in London Celebrations, but across different areas of the world during important finance conferences. The teams from Insurance and Private Clients departments will once again engage in various events and conferences at the forefront of financial services, held in different countries.

The evening was attended by many prominent figures in the industry, including bankers, lawyers and accountants.
