Oct 21- The Island Games Are Coming Home – Gibraltar To Host International Competition In 2019
It’s official – Gibraltar will host the Island Games in 2019.
The announcement was made yesterday evening following Gibraltar’s submission of a document bid at the end of September this year.
It has been agreed that the following sports will be held at these games:
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Judo, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Tenpin Bowling, Triathlon.
Official contracts will be signed in the next couple of weeks.
GOVERNMENT REACTION
The Government publicly congratulated the Gibraltar Island Games Association on their success on being awarded the contract to host the 2019 Island Games on the Rock.
The Government added that it fully supports the Gibraltar Island Games Committee in this venture.
The Minister for Sports, Steven Linares said:
“I am delighted to hear that Gibraltar will once again be hosting the Island Games in 2019. As someone who took part in the Gibraltar Sunshine Games in 1995, I know that the whole of our community will engage once again to make these games very successful”.
