Justin Hewitt Wins The Carmelo Ellul Trophy
09 October 2024
Justin Hewitt secured a 6-0 victory in the best-of-11 final, winning the Carmelo Ellul Trophy and earning 21 ranking points.
A statement from the GDA follows below:
We start off a bit of a history lesson;
In 1956 the Gibraltar Civilian Darts Club was started by Carmelo Ellul. He became friends with an RAF Corporal named Dave Obee who ran the Military Darts Club.
They merged in 1958 and the Gibraltar Darts Association was born - 66 years later it’s still going strong!
So what better way to start the Gibraltar Ranking 2024 – 2025 season by honouring one of our co-founders with the Carmelo Ellul Trophy.
A minute silence was held before the start of the tournament in rembrance of the late Joe Holmes a long standing GDA member who passed away last month.
Action began in the George Federico Hall at the Europa Point Complex, with over 30 of Gibraltar's best darts players competing to become the winner of the Carmelo Ellul Trophy.
After some very competitive matches where many 180’s and High Finishes were scored, the Semi-Finals were made up of players that have all represented Gibraltar throughout their darts career, Nico Bado, Craig Galliano, Justin Hewitt & Dyson Parody.
The first Semi-Final saw Craig Galliano face Dyson Parody and finished 5-2 for Dyson.
The second Semi Final matched Justin Hewitt Vs Nico Bado and ended 5-4 for Justin Hewitt.
The final between Dyson Parody and Justin Hewitt was played as best of 11 legs where Justin came out fighting and won 6-0 with excellent scoring from both to become the winner of the Carmelo Ellul Trophy and clinch 21 Ranking Points .
“Congratulations Justin Hewitt!!!”
The GDA will return to the league matches on Friday and return to the Gibraltar Rankings on the 12/11/24 with the Dave Obee Classic. The second ranking of the 2024-2025 season and the other GDA Co-Founder.
