Special Olympics Gibraltar Compete At Monaco Swimming Event

A team of six swimmers and two coaches will represent Special Olympics Gibraltar at the prestigious Princess Charlene Special Olympics European Swimming Invitational Games in Monaco this coming weekend.
A statement from Special Olympics Gibraltar follows below:
The team will depart from Gibraltar on Thursday October 24th returning to the Rock on Tuesday October 29th. Upon arrival, the first challenge awaits with the divisioning heats scheduled for Saturday. Following this, the athletes will participate in a short opening ceremony on Saturday evening in the magnificent Stade Louis II Centre Nautique Albert II, marking the beginning of an inspiring weekend of sport.
Representing Gibraltar will be Ivan Mannion Gomez, Douglas Pitaluga, Adam Stewart, Glen Wimbleton, Sallyann Mauro and Christopher Joyce with coach Christine Bugeja and Head of Delegation Michael Mauro. Sunday will be the highlight for the athletes as they compete against diverse teams from 27 other countries across Europe. The day will culminate in medal ceremonies celebrating the efforts and achievements of all participants and showcasing the spirit of inclusion and friendship that defines the Special Olympics.
“Our swimmers have been training tirelessly, and this event is a fantastic opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills while being part of a larger community of athletes,” said Annie Risso National Director of Special Olympics Gibraltar. “We are excited for the athletes to be able to foster friendships, build teamwork, and make lasting memories in Monaco.”
Participation in the Princess Charlene Special Olympics European Swimming Invitational Games not only emphasizes the importance of competitive sports to Special Olympics athletes but also highlights the social aspects of such events. The athletes will connect with peers, share experiences, and celebrate their achievements together, reinforcing the values of inclusion and support.
