The Government says it warmly congratulates the President of the Commonwealth Games Gibraltar Charles Flower on receiving a Gold pin and Order of Merit Award from the Commonwealth Games Federation. Mr Flower has been awarded this honour in recognition of over 60 years service to sport on the Rock. He was Gibraltar’s first ever athlete to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958.
The award was made at the General Assembly of the Federation held in Glasgow yesterday with the participation of the 71 countries attending the Commonwealth Games. There were only two recipients of the award.
The Gibraltar Parliament also recently bestowed upon him the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction for Mr Flower’s work in sport.
