Jul 31 - Squash And Athletics News From Team Gib’s Seventh Day At The Commonwealth Games

After 6 days of competition at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Day 7 has seen just small snippets of action for Team Gibraltar. Just after 10 yesterday morning, sprinter Jerai Torres went in heat one of the 200m 1st round. Jerai, who’d earlier competed in the 100m heats on Sunday, produced a 2nd season’s best as he recorded 22:55.

The other action for Gibraltar took place in Scotstoun, with Anthony Brindle and Chrsitian Navas in with a slim chance of progressing to the knockout stages of  the Squash men’s doubles. The pair needed to beat Zambia to progress but lost the contest two sets to nil to finish their involvement in the Squash events for these Games.

Looking ahead to the final couple of days and Team Gibraltar’s action today will see the three cyclists, Julian Bellido, Mark Francis and Lee Calderon take part in the Time Trial around the streets of Glasgow in the morning.

Friday will see a debut appearance for Gibraltar for Harvey Dixon who will run in the 1500m heats in the evening with Gibraltar’s participation on Saturday dependent on Harvey’s result in the 1500m heats.

The majority of Team Gibraltar arrive back on the Rock next Tuesday, with some athletes and officials having already started to head home.
