Jun 11 – GFA Approves New Internal Structure

The GFA has announced that, at an EGM held last night, the membership of the Association unanimously approved a new structure for the governing body of football in Gibraltar.

The GFA is now formally constituted as a limited, non-profit-making company - GFA Limited - and has adopted an entirely new internal structure which does away with the old Council system and replaces it with a more professional model in keeping with National Associations elsewhere in Europe.

The supreme body of the new GFA is the General Assembly, comprising of the entire membership of the Association and in which decisions are democratically voted upon. The General Assembly would normally meet once a year (at an AGM) or – exceptionally - at an EGM should that be necessary.

The body that will run football in Gibraltar on a day-to-day basis is the newly-constituted Management Board, headed by Mr. Dennis Beiso who now becomes the General Secretary of the Gibraltar Football Association. The Management Board will additionally consist of a Deputy General Secretary (who will also manage all the legal affairs of the Association), a Finance Director, a Technical Director, a Grassroots Manager and a Head of Administration who will be in charge of office and human resources management.

In addition to the Management Board, and acting in a supervisory capacity, a new Non-Executive Committee has been established consisting of the Vice President, Mr. Paul Lyon, and four representatives of a new Association of the football clubs in Gibraltar. For the first time, Clubs will form an active part of the decision-making process in Gibraltarian football. This is a symbol, says the GFA, of the new environment of dialogue and co-operation that exists between the Clubs and the GFA administration.

Together, the Management Board and Non-Executive Committee constitute the new Board of Directors of the GFA.

Commenting on the new structure of the Association, General Secretary Dennis Beiso said:

“Last night was a historic moment for Gibraltarian football. The decisions taken unanimously at the EGM represent a watershed and a turning point in the administration of football in our country. Without a doubt, the GFA has taken the next step in its evolution into a professional outfit, with the full backing and support of its Member Clubs and as a direct result of months of internal discussions and deliberations.

“I would like to thank the former GFA Council for their hard work over these past years, and the Clubs for their invaluable contribution to devising this restructure and for the confidence they have shown in me as CEO and now General Secretary.

“The Clubs, and indeed Gibraltar as a whole, will see a different GFA now – a GFA committed to efficiency and professionalism and to the delivery of policies and procedures that will contribute to the best interests of our football.”
