Ocean Village, represented by Emilia Hazel-Smith and Boatshed Gibraltar, represented by John and Lynda Alcantara, presented a cheque for £6,780.60 to Lady Dutton at the Convent this morning.

The cheque represents the total funds raised by the Ocean Village/Boatshed Gibraltar Yacht Rally for the Red Cross. The amount raised is more than a threefold increase on what was achieved in 2014. John Alcantara said that this amount could not have been achieved without the support of the headline sponsors (Ocean Village & Boatshed Gibraltar) and the major sponsors who this year were the Gibraltar Port Authority, Eroski, Hire U Shop, Isla Verde Yacht Centre, Sovereign Insurance and GibOil. A further 20 sponsors supported the event, many from the yachting community in Gibraltar.

Mr Alcantara said that the support of the organising committee and the participants was vital to the success of the rally. Forty-three boats signed up to participate with over a third coming from up the coast. On the day 39 boats made it to Morocco for a fun-filled weekend.
