Oct 23 - RGP Make £3 Million Drug Haul
Numerous bales of cannabis resin, estimated to have a street value of £3 Million were seized yesterday morning by the RGP.
Shortly before 7am yesterday, officers of the RGP’s Marine Section detected five suspect vessels off the eastern seaboard.
The RGP crew proceeded to intercept one of the suspect vessels - a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat - about two and half nautical miles east of Eastern Beach. The navigator of the RHIB failed to stop and carried out a series of evasive manoeuvres, during which the crew of the suspect RHIB proceeded to jettison a number of bales. The chase was discontinued once the suspect vessel left Gibraltar waters heading north.
A total of twenty-one bales were seized by the RGP officers following a search of the area. Each bale weighs approximately 30kg.
