Man Sentenced Following Serious Domestic Abuse Incident

A local man has been sentenced in the Supreme Court following a serious domestic incident that occurred on Christmas Eve in 2023.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
Jacob McWilliam, aged 24, was sentenced to imprisonment for seven years and eight months after pleading guilty to charges of Attempted Grievous Bodily Harm and Actual Bodily Harm. The court also imposed a Restraining Order for the protection of the victim, which will remain in force until further order of the Court.
The RGP remains committed to protecting victims, pursuing offenders and bringing those responsible before our courts, and this latest outcome reflects this commitment. We continue to encourage anyone who may be experiencing domestic abuse, or anyone concerned for the safety of another person, to contact the RGP and seek support. Reports will be treated seriously and investigated thoroughly.
We wish to thank all the officers and partner agencies involved in supporting the victim in this case and who assisted with the investigation.
