By YGTV Newsroom51 minutes ago

Trinity House and the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, in collaboration with Wright Tech, say they are pleased to announce the official opening of the Gibraltar Lighthouse at Europa Point.

The inaugural ceremony will take place today Thursday 17th September at 11:00am, with a ribbon-cutting attended by the Trinity House Deputy Master, Deputy Governor for Gibraltar, the Ministers for Heritage and Culture and representatives from across Gibraltar. Guests will be invited to celebrate and learn more about the new visitor experience from the Gibraltar Lighthouse tour guide team.

A statement continued: “Following on from a soft opening in July this year, the opening marks an important milestone for the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, making this iconic heritage asset more accessible to the community and visitors.

“Located at Europa Point, Gibraltar Lighthouse offers visitors the opportunity to discover its history and stories while experiencing its unique maritime setting.

The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, Trinity House, Wright Tech and HM Government of Gibraltar.

Claire Montado, CEO of the Gibraltar Heritage Trust:

“This is a very special moment for the Trust and the culmination of a great deal of work to open up one of Gibraltar’s most iconic landmarks in a meaningful and sustainable way. The Europa Point Lighthouse is both a working aid to navigation and an important part of our shared heritage, and we are enormously proud that Trinity House has entrusted us with the opportunity to help tell its story not just to visitors but to our local community. This has been a genuinely collaborative project, and we would like to thank Trinity House, HM Government of Gibraltar and Wright Tech Media, together with everyone who has worked behind the scenes to bring us to this point. We are very excited to see this next chapter in the life of the lighthouse begin.”

Christian Wright, Director at WrightTech: “At Wright Tech, we couldn’t be prouder to have played a part in opening one of Gibraltar’s most iconic landmarks to the public. This has been a genuinely collaborative project, working alongside some incredibly passionate individuals and our partners at the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, together with the trust that Trinity House has placed in us to help deliver this project. It is incredibly exciting to see that collective effort come to fruition. The opening of the Gibraltar Lighthouse represents not only a significant moment for this historic landmark, but another important step forward in the continued development of Gibraltar’s heritage and tourism offering.”

Rear Admiral Iain Lower CB, Deputy Master of Trinity House, added:

“We are delighted to respond to the Gibraltarian community’s request to open Europa Point Lighthouse to visitors. The station is a significant part of the story of Gibraltar and we are pleased to partner with the Gibraltar Heritage Trust to make this a reality.”

The Gibraltar Heritage Trust and its partners say they look forward to welcoming the community to celebrate this new chapter for Gibraltar Lighthouse.
