GSD Raises Concerns Over Portacabin Classrooms At St Joseph’s

The GSD has raised concerns over the use of portacabins at St Joseph’s School while refurbishment works are carried out.

A statement from the GSD follows below:

Parents are legitimately asking why schoolchildren will need to attend classes in portacabins at St Joseph’s School and  why the necessary refurbishment works at the school are not going to be finished on time. All steps should be taken  to maximise the programme of works to avoid this happening. The Government needs to clearly answer why all this is  happening.

Parents whose children attend St Joseph’s Lower and Upper Primary Schools have expressed surprise that Government  waited till the end of the last academic year to announce that pupils will have to attend school in portacabins for some  lessons from September. Parents seem not to have been told this until very late.

Additionally, the loss of so many parking facilities to accommodate the portacabins will impact on residents as well as  family members who routinely collect children at the end of the school day.
