Ministry Of Equality Brings Generations Together For International Day Of Older Persons

By YGTV Newsroom11 hours ago

The Ministry of Equality has brought together young people from the Youth Service and older members of the community for an intergenerational workshop marking International Day of Older Persons.

Participants took part in round-table discussions focused on shared experiences, challenging assumptions about age and finding ways for different generations to work together.

A statement from the Government follows below:

The Ministry of Equality held its second event to mark International Day of Older Persons, bringing together young people from the Youth Service and older members of the community, including participants from the Age Symposium.

The intergenerational and interactive workshop created an informal space in which people of different ages could meet, share their experiences and learn from one another. Participants took part in relaxed round-table discussions that encouraged open conversation, generated ideas and explored the perspectives of different generations.

The event was guided by the principle that every age and every voice matters. Participants discussed the issues that were important to them, considered the experiences they had in common and reflected on how different generations could work together to strengthen understanding and connection within the community.

The workshop also encouraged participants to challenge assumptions about age and recognise the valuable knowledge, experience and insights that both younger and older people could contribute. The ideas generated through the discussions will help inform future intergenerational initiatives and opportunities for collaboration.

Minister for Equality, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said: “Meaningful conversations between generations help us to understand one another, challenge stereotypes and recognise the contribution that people of every age make to our community.

“This workshop style event created a welcoming and relaxed environment in which younger and older people could speak openly and share lived experiences. Every participant brought a different perspective, and it was wonderful to see every age and every voice being valued and heard. Events like these play an important role in fostering social cohesion and understanding. They also encourage young people and older people to be active contributors to society and to shape the community they belong to.”

The event formed part of the Ministry of Equality’s programme marking International Day of Older Persons and followed the recent afternoon tea held at the Calpe Rowing Club, which focused on enhancing social connection and wellbeing among older members of the community.
