Jun 23 – Royal Academicians’ Exhibition Opens

By Jeremy Gomez

On Tuesday evening guests were treated to a glimpse of the creative works of three Royal Academicians, whose work will be displayed in the exhibition entitled ‘Lines & Colours’ for the public in the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery in Casemates from Wednesday the 22nd of June to Friday the 16th of July.

The three renowned artists, Barbara Rae RA, Anne Desmet RA and Ann Christopher RA, will also be curating the gallery with the assistance of Yvette Zarb Bensusan, Seamus Byrne and Gino Sanguinetti.

The Minister for Culture, Mr Steven Linares, was present to inaugurate the exhibition describing it as a ‘landmark exhibition’ that has been in conception since 2014, when the Gibraltar Cultural Services, as part of the Government’s cultural development programme, had several meetings with the Royal Academy of Art.

Mr Linares stated that the aim of the exhibition was to encourage and foster the culture within the community, but also as a start for Gibraltar to find its place on the ‘cultural map’ to export the work of our local artists and for distinguished artists from around the world to come and exhibit their work here.

All three artists have had ties with Gibraltar in recent years by participating as judges for the Gibraltar International Art Exhibition. They highlighted in their introductions that it was a pleasure ‘to give something back, having been here as judges for the International Art competition, so we’ve overseen your work and of the artists here … and you are likely to be doing the same with us”

The Gallery will be open to the public until the 16th of July, offering an exclusive chance to view the works of the three renowned Royal Academicians.
