Aug 23 - Gibraltar Bands To Be Selected By MTV To Perform At London Music Week
The producers of this year’s MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling Music Festival will select local acts to perform at a special event during London Music Week this November.
The event will take place at The 100 Club in the run up to the MTV European Music Awards (“EMAs”) at Wembley Arena.
The initiative, which is backed by the Government, is being described as a “fantastic opportunity” for Gibraltarian bands and acoustic acts as major record company executives and A&R reps will be in attendance to scout for new talent.
Located at 100 Oxford Street, The 100 Club has championed all manner of musical icons throughout the years. Performances from legendary acts including The Who, Sex Pistols, BB King, The Kinks and The Clash in the club’s early days underpinned its importance on the London music scene.
The venue’s vivid history has given way to a number of secret gigs from global superstars including Queens Of The Stone Age, Metallica, Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Chuck Berry and Paul Weller to name a few. Since opening its doors in 1942 it has earned the title of the oldest independent venue world-wide and is an institution amongst music industry professionals.
Successful acts will be announced on Tuesday 5th September.
Producer Richard Coram commented, "We've heard so much about the vibrant live music scene in Gibraltar. It’s brilliant to be a part of it. We are looking at the best of the local talent to take to London Music Week for Gibraltar Calling - LONDON.”
Tickets to the 9th November event will soon go on sale via The 100 Club website from 1st October 2017. www.the100club.co.uk
