Nov 08 - Jaime Velázquez Sánchez Takes First Prize In This Year’s International Art Exhibition
The Gibraltar International Art Exhibition, organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services for the Ministry of Culture, is being held at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery.
Artists from Gibraltar, Greece and Spain have submitted a total of two hundred and twelve works.
The Minister for Culture Steven Linares officially opened the Exhibition and presented the awards yesterday evening.
Mr Tim Shaw, Royal Academician, carried out the adjudication.
The Prize winners are:

The Jacobo Azagury Prize 2nd Prize: Paul Perez ‘Self Portrait’
The Leni Mifsud Prize 3rd Prize: Shane Dalmedo ‘The Last Migrant’
The Ministry of Culture Prize Best Young Artist: Ethan Pizarro ‘E= MC2‘
The Rudesindo Mannia Prize Best Gibraltar Theme: Derek Duarte ‘Tariq Ibn Ziyad’

Commenting at the Official Opening of the International Art Exhibition, Mr Linares said:
“The 44th Gibraltar International Art Exhibition has attracted the highest number of entries in recent years, from local and international artists, amateur and professional in their field. This exhibition is a unique art event in which we open our borders and welcome artworks from different countries, thus continuing to strengthen the bonds between local and international art communities. I am confident this exhibition will prove to be an inspiring and gratifying experience for all.
“We must give special thanks to this year’s adjudicator, Mr Tim Shaw, from the Royal Academy, for undertaking this task. Thanks must also go to all the artists, as well as staff from Gibraltar Culture Services, for their continuous dedication and hard work. Without them this exhibition would not be possible.
“I hope that everyone will enjoy this year’s exhibition.”
The Exhibition is now open to the public until Saturday 18th November between 10.30am and 6.30pm on weekdays and 10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday. Entrance is free.
