Oct 13 - Shadow Cabinet Reshuffle

The Opposition today confirms the following changes to shadow cabinet portfolios.

The Leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham will take on responsibility for health and employment.

Elliott Phillips relinquishes employment but retains training and skills jointly with the Leader of the Opposition and takes on responsibility for education.

Roy Clinton will take on responsibility for financial services.

Trevor Hammond, Lawrence Llamas and Edwin Reyes continue with their previously appointed portfolios.

Speaking on the changes Mr Feetham said: "The GSD are continually reviewing our output and are always looking at ways to enhance and deepen the delivery of our vision on key areas of GSD policy.

"Elliott has shown determination and strong passion for the training of skills and we have developed an excellent policy on apprenticeships which has received widespread community support.  I believe that by combining both my background on employment and Elliott's clear interest in skills and education both he and I jointly can add further value to this most important set of responsibilities.

"Nothing is more important that the creation of better opportunities for our young people in education and the training of skills.

"Roy Clinton has demonstrated through his tough questioning in parliament of the Government's position on public debt that he has unquestionable acumen in the area of public finances. I have no doubt whatsoever that he will do an excellent job in holding the Government to account in the financial services portfolio. Roy will add further value to our response during the challenging times that we will all face.

"As for changes to my own portfolio the health and welfare of the people of our country is as important to me as public finances and I want to ensure that good and essential work provided by the health service provides value for money at the point of delivery.  The working people of our community deserve employment to be placed at the top of the political agenda."
