Oct 17 - Clinton Announces New Base For GSD Leadership Elections Campaign

There’s 44 days left until the GSD leadership election is held, and current GSD Leader Roy Clinton announced the new location for his new campaign base today.

Mr Clinton made the announcement at his new temporary location in 85 Main Street earlier today, where he will be utilising the space to hold meetings with GSD members eligible and registered to vote as well as planning his leadership campaign.

He said: “I have done this to separate the leadership campaigning that is going on with the normal GSD political and party business. The best way to do that is to keep both things separate.”

There are currently an estimated 1,500 members registered with the GSD, and Mr Clinton is urging them to contact the GSD offices to ensure they are registered, and to check whether current email addresses are on the database to ensure they receive campaign pamphlets from both Mr Clinton and Mr Azopardi.

GSD members will only be able to cast a vote in the leadership election if they’ve been a member of the party for two years at any given time.

Mr Clinton said: “I am very excited about the future of the GSD and both me and Keith have some great ideas for the party.

“I am pretty confident with the support of the members we will grow in strength and move in the right direction.”

One of the visions Mr Clinton has set out is to reintroducing party conferences like we see in the UK, where debates and motions discussed.

He added: “My campaign is about members and connecting with the members. It’s about capturing their imagination.”

Mr Clinton also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia who was killed in her car bomb yesterday.

He added: “Freedom of the press is paramount.”
