Sep 11 - Local Clubs To Participate In 'Cycle Around The Globe 2018'
In support of World Suicide Prevention Day, cyclists in Gibraltar from local clubs such as the Gibraltar Cycling Club, UCM Road & MTB, Team PEB and Wild Rock Racing will be participating in the 'Cycle Around the Globe 2018' from the 1st - 17th September 2018.
A spokesperson said: "The aim is to collectively cycle the globe (40,075 kilometres). Last year 287 participants representing 48 countries cycled 357,796.08 kilometres, the equivalent of 9 times the circumference of the Earth.
The purpose is to raise awareness of the risks of suicide and to fund suicide prevention activities. Statistics show that a person dies every 40 seconds by suicide and up to 25 times as many again make a suicide attempt."
"This event is about our global community: to encourage and engage with each other, together spreading awareness of suicide prevention. There are no costs involved however cyclists are donating £5 each towards local charity GibSams."
Any individual or group may join by contacting their Club Secretary or Ian Howes via Facebook to register.
