Man Sentenced to Six Years for Attempted Wounding with Intent

A 28-year-old resident of Varyl Begg Estate has been sentenced to six years imprisonment following a violent incident that took place on 20th July 2024.
Christopher Nuñez, was sentenced at the Supreme Court after he pleaded guilty to charges of Attempted Wounding with Intent and Possession of a Bladed Article.
The court heard that Nuñez approached a residence in Varyl Begg whilst carrying a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab the occupant of said residence several times when he came to the front door. After a failed initial attempt, Nuñez attended another residence where he retrieved another knife and a pair of scissors. However he was located and detained by Armed Response Officers before he was able to return to the victim’s residence. The subsequent investigation was led by detectives from the Royal Gibraltar Police Criminal Investigation Department.
An RGP spokesperson said, “The prompt and effective response to this call for assistance by uniformed and armed officers resulted in the defendant being intercepted and detained before he was able to return to the victim’s residence for a second time armed with more weapons. Our gratitude also extends to CID detectives and Crime Scene Investigators for their efforts during the subsequent investigation.
“Incidents such as these are rare in Gibraltar, but when they do occur, our community can feel safe in the knowledge that our frontline responders and specialist teams will always prioritise such incidents as we have done in the past and continue to do.”
