Autumn Poetry Competition Winners 2024

The annual Poetry Competition, organised by Gibraltar Cultural Services (GCS) and the Gibraltar Chronicle, attracted a total of 304 entries.
A statement from the Government follows below:
The awards were presented by the Minister for Culture, The Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, on Wednesday 4th December 2024 at 4.30pm at BOOKgem.
The winners are as follows:
Overall Winner (£1000): Bonnie McHard ‘The Illusion of Equality’
Adult Winner (£500): Manar Ben Tahayekt ‘Hands of Home’
Runner Up: Michael Nicholls ‘If Shakespeare was Gibraltarian today’
Best Spanish Poem (£500): Teresa Mascarenhas ‘Soleda’
Runner Up: Alfred Manuel Gerada ‘Levante’
Llanito Winner (£500): Giordano Durante ‘Castle Road’
Runner Up: Susan Cabezutto ‘Ai Los Abuelos’
School Years 11 – 13
Winner: Bonnie McHard ‘The Illusion of Equality’
Runner Up: Kate Julianne Williamson ‘Shadow of the Rock’
School Years 8 – 10
Winner: Yuvraj Ramchandani ‘A Good Small Place’
Runner Up: Jake Stevens ‘An Autumn Poem’
School Years 6 – 7
Winner: Lewis Bennett ‘New Beginnings’
Runner Up: Nikita Jones ‘My Pencil’
School Years 4 – 5
Winner: Saanvi Khani ‘Nostalgia’
Runner Up: Cora Ann Lopez ‘The Amount your Sister can Teach You’
All winning entries will be published in the Gibraltar Chronicle and on www.culture.gi
The Gibraltar Chronicle kindly donated a 3-month online subscription to the Overall Winner, as well as vouchers and pens for the winners of the school categories.
