Very many congratulations are due to Mr Grech and Mr Harrison for their significant contribution to sport and education respectively, reflecting their selfless commitment to young Gibraltarians over a sustained period’.

Chief Minister Congratulates Recipients

The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo, has congratulated the recipients of New Year’s Honours Awards.

A statement continued: “In particular, the Government is proud to note the award of an MBE to Mr Stewart Harrison for services to Digital Skills Education for Young Learners in Gibraltar. Former Head of Physics at Bayside School, Stewart has long championed digital education on the Rock, successfully leading seven teams of young people to the CyberCenturion finals. As founding trustee of the Gibraltar Digital Skills Academy, Stewart’s work will benefit generations of Gibraltarians to come.

“The Government also wishes to commend Mr Leslie Grech, who has been awarded an MBE for services to Rowing in Gibraltar. Leslie’s lifelong dedication to his sport, both at the historic Calpe Rowing Club and the Gibraltar Amateur Rowing Association, has significantly impacted on the development and vitality of Rowing on the Rock, contributing greatly to Gibraltar’s international sporting success.”

Mr Picardo said: “Both award recipients are beacons of inspiration, particularly for young people, to support and uplift others whilst striving for excellence. Stewart is but one of the many outstanding young people in the public service that I am proud to lead politically alongside Chief Secretary Glendon Martinez. Leslie is a cross-generational achiever whose contribution has included training brilliant young Gibraltarian rowers for years, including recently Jack Prior who has made the Team GB squad after his starting at Calpe Rowing Club under Leslie. The recognition of both Stewart and Leslie for their sustained dedication in their respective fields will no doubt be welcomed by all of those who have benefited and continue to benefit from their experience and commitment.”
