May 22 - Childline Appeal for Support this Friday
Childline are appealing for support during this Friday’s flag day. A spokesperson said that if they manage to raise £5,000 this amount would be enough to fund their telephone helpline service for around six months, meaning that the charity can help about 300 children in Gibraltar. A spokesperson urged the public: “Please help us on Friday when you see us shaking our collection tins!”
Childline has been operating locally for seven years and provides much needed services to the children and young people of Gibraltar including a free telephone Helpline Service open every day of the year between the hours of 5 – 9pm and an Appropriate Adult Service which is available 24 hours a day where volunteers work closely with the RGP providing support and assistance to juveniles who have been detained by the police. In addition to this there is an Educational and Awareness Programme where volunteers and managers work closely with schools and other youth and community groups promoting better understanding about self-care and personal needs.
Childline would like to remind the public that their services are completely funded through private and corporate donations.
“Our mission,” said a spokesperson, “is simple: to end cruelty to children in Gibraltar. Please help us as we all have a responsibility to protect our children.”
