Aug 06 - Defenders Urge Gibraltar to Fly Their Flags
The Defenders of Gibraltar fully support the recent initiative expressed by a number of members of the general public during discussions regarding sending a 'powerful, peaceful and unequivocal message' highlighting the strength of Gibraltarian unity.
A statement released by the pressure group notes, ‘the initiative itself is for people in Gibraltar to fly the Gibraltar flag, Union Jack flag or Union Jack defaced with castle and key flag from their houses, windows, balconies and even shop windows. Indeed anywhere where a flag can be hung, flown or displayed, we urge people to do exactly that.
The current tactics the Spanish Government have used towards Gibraltar and its people or the tactics they have expressed they would be undertaking, require a strong and definitive statement, which is peaceful in nature. The flying of our flags are as strong a message as we can send to the outside world, and will be viewed as a silent display of our position.
We look forward to seeing people flying the flags, and we will be taking as many photographs of them around Gibraltar - indeed we will also be highlighting the most bizarre locations of flags (There is one already on North Face of the rock, whilst another near Kings Lines which can be seen from Casemates square) over the coming days.’
