Jan 22 - GONHS Congratulates Government on Joining Nature Conservation Union
The Gibraltar Ornithological and Natural History Society has welcomed the Department to the Environment to the ‘International Union for Conservation of Nature’, a group the Society has been a member of for over 20 years. The Union claims to help find pragmatic solutions to pressing environment and developmental challenges.
They aim to deploy nature-based solutions ‘to global challenges in climate, food and development.’
A statement released by GONHS insisted that ‘a second member from Gibraltar will help to strengthen the Rock’s presence and position within the organisation.’
The statement added, ‘we are hopeful that a Government department, with its resources and employees, will be able to complement the efforts of our volunteer organisation very effectively.
‘We congratulate the Government on this achievement, which clearly shows a strong, policy commitment towards wildlife conservation.’
