If you every have the urge to buy recycled toilet paper in a bid to save the planet, please pause and have a think about it before you do. Recycled toilet paper is probably one of the most dangerous propositions on the planet, being right up there with wrestling Nile crocodiles in your underpants.
At home there are many things you can do which can help you save energy, without having to resort to buying dodgy bog roll. The first and most important thing you can do, is switch off all unnecessary lights, ok, so you have a child who is afraid of the dark, well the child has to grow out of that at some stage, so don’t do it. No night-lights.
Modern households have a whole plethora of electrical gadgets, suckling at the world’s resources 24hrs a day. When the electrical item has done its task switch it off and don’t you dare leave it on standby. While on standby an electrical device will still be slurping up on the teat of your local power grid like a dog licking out a jar of peanut butter.
A short visit to one of the many websites that give readers some very useful tips on how to keep your energy bill to the minimum, it will not only give you that warm smug feeling that you are saving the planet, but also it will save you some pennies too.
And if you work for a company, whether large or small, you can be doing your bit there too, before leaving for your dark cold home you can run around the office pulling the plug on all those fax machines and printers. During the day think twice on whether you really need to print out that two-line email for your blackmail file.
At the rate modern society is going, if we don’t find some kind of renewable energy source soon, we are going to be heading for some really dark times ahead. The projections for the world’s resources state that oil will run out in twenty years, western civilisation will grind to a halt, war and famine will be the order of the day.
So why are we so hung up on saving energy, when in reality all we are doing is prolonging the inevitable. Well for starters, at base level you save money, money that you can invest into renewable energy like solar panels and off shore wind farms. Preparing for a world without oil makes total sense, don’t wait until the lights go out for good.
