Mar 18 - Follow Mark's Journey As He Walks From Gibraltar To Jerusalem

Former Commanding Officer of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Mark Randall, will be undertaking the mammoth task of walking more than 8,000km from Gibraltar to Jerusalem, all in the name of charity.

The walk is predicted to take Mark a duration of anything between nine months or up to a year, and Mark will walk from the Rock to Santiago de Compostela, across the Pyrenees into France, Italy and Rome, along the Dalmatian coast, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Israel – ending in Jerusalem.

He will set off on his walk on Friday 1st April, from the Shrine at Europa Point, Gibraltar, and the first leg of his journey is to Los Barrios. He will be joined by members of the Taourarte Charity, the Gibraltar Amigos de Santiago and others on the first day.

Last year, Mark walked from Cardiff to Gibraltar and raised £17,000 for charity from the walk and subsequent sales of the book; Walk to the Rock.

The walk will be unsupported. Individuals, groups or organizations interested in joining Mark at any stage are more than welcome.

Goodwill messages have been presented by the Mayor and representatives of the main religions in Gibraltar, which Mark will carry to Jerusalem.

Mark believes that it would be a shame to walk from Gibraltar to Jerusalem and not try to raise awareness and money for worthy causes. He is supporting the following charities;

•       The Royal Gibraltar Regiment Benevolent Fund – support to serving and retired soldiers and their families.

•       The GBC Open Day.

•       Tarourarte Education Charitable Organization – a new locally registered charity hoping to advance the academic and vocational education of children in the village of Taourarte in the Province of Chefchouen in Morocco.

•       Por una sonrisa – a charity which aims to improve the quality of life for children and teenagers suffering from cancer.

Any donations and support would be appreciated.

Cheques should be made out to the RG Benevolent Fund, and sent to Captain John Pitto, Adjutant, The Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Devils Tower Camp, BFPO 52.

Donations can be made to Taourarte Education Charitable Association – account number 02629001, sort code 60-83-14.
