#OTWOChallenge a “Resounding Success” as Minister Cortes Completes His First Cycling Route

OTWO says it is thrilled to announce the “outstanding success” of its charity cycling event, the #OTWOChallenge, in support of the GBC Open Day. Participants collectively cycled an impressive total of 1,760 kilometers—the equivalent distance from Gibraltar to the UK.
A statement from OTWO follows below:
The highlight of the event was Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change, Heritage, Education and Transport, John Cortes completing his first-ever cycling route. This milestone exemplified the message that it’s never too late and you can never be too busy to embrace new challenges.
Minister Cortes was joined by community members and fellow ministers, including Minister for Industrial Relations, Civil Contingencies and Sport, Leslie Bruzon and Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture and Tourism, Christian Santos, who demonstrated their support for the event and its charitable cause.
Cyclists of all ages, from 6 to 80 years old, chose routes of 10km, 30km, or 50km, showcasing the community’s enthusiasm to GBC Open Day fundrasing and cycling as a whole. It was a day of unity and purpose, with families and individuals coming together to support the Minister for Transport in his cycling journey, while also promoting the importance of an active, sustainable lifestyle.
The event’s success was made possible by the incredible support of individuals and local businesses.
OTWO extends heartfelt thanks to Christopher Nunez and Stuart Hedley of E Bike Gibraltar for their invaluable assistance throughout the journey, and to the Small Boats Owners Club committee members for allowing us the use of their premises for the event venue. Special thanks also go to our sponsors, who supported the initiative from the start: AMA Group, SDL (part of The Energy Vision Group), and AquaGib.
We are also deeply grateful to all local businesses that generously donated goods for the prize hamper, including: Infinity Crew Photo and Video, EcoPassion, E-Bike Gibraltar, The Gibraltar Gift Shop, Light My Senses, Saccone & Speed, Khubchands, Spirit of The Rock, The Silver Shop, Metalrok & El Martillo Ltd, Pashmina, Trafalgar Pharmacy, Music Corner, Piece of Cake, Gela’Ti’Amo, Glass House, Boat Owners Club, The Clipper and Cluckers.
Vanessa Byrne, Managing Director of OTWO, celebrated the event’s achievements, stating: “This event was about more than just cycling; it was about the community coming together to support a meaningful cause. Minister Cortes’ journey, backed by his colleagues and the community, was a powerful example of teamwork and determination. It’s never too late and you can never be too busy to try something new and make a positive change. The collective distance of 1,760 kilometers showcases the incredible results we can achieve when we work together. A huge thank you to all.”
All funds raised will be donated to the GBC Open Day on December 12th. Additionally, OTWO is excited to share a short film documenting Minister Cortes’ journey and the highlights of this inspiring event.
