Dr Helen Carter Joins Bosom Buddies As Trustee

Bosom Buddies Cancer Trust has announced Dr Helen Carter as a new Trustee.
A statement from Bosom Buddies Cancer Trust follows below:
Recently one of our Trustees resigned from this post due to personal reasons. After some deliberation by the current Trustees, together with the Chairperson & Vice-Chair, they agreed to nominate Dr Helen Carter. This is what she said after she received the nomination : ‘I am delighted to have been approached by The Bosom Buddies Cancer Trust to be a trustee. The whole ethos of the charity inspires me.” She will start her role as from mid-January.
Dr Helen Carter, FFPH MB ChB MPH, Director of Public Health, qualified as a doctor at the University of Birmingham Medical School. She started her consultant career in the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority, and later moved into Public Health England in 2013. She was appointed as a Deputy Director for Healthcare Public Health in 2015.
In September 2021 she moved to Gibraltar to take on the role as the Director of Public Health and as the chair of the Gibraltar Medical Registration Board. She has previously worked internationally, including advising the Government in Indonesia about sustainable funding of healthcare, to provide universal health coverage for the fourth largest population in the world.
Since then she has attended the World Health Organisation H20 summit, accompanying the Minister of Health for the launch of the global legislator’s initiative to address non-communicable diseases.
In her personal life, Helen is a proud mum of a 26-year-old daughter who currently lives and works in London. Helen and her husband enjoy travelling and a variety of hobbies, and family and friends are a significant part of their lives.
The initial reason for Helen’s move from a more traditional hospital doctor role into public health, was that she recognised the need for prevention and moving into ‘upstream medicine,’ exactly the ethos of Bosom Buddies motto: “Early detection equals survival.”
