07 January 2025

A local man has been sentenced to 12 weeks behind bars after breaking into a restaurant on Western Beach.
A statement from the RGP follows below:
Riyen Lea, 37, of no fixed place of abode, was sentenced at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday (6 January) after pleading guilty to a charge of Burglary.
The court heard that La Playita Bar was broken into during the early hours of 14 January 2024.
After the RGP received a report of a break in, officers found that someone had forced entry to the bar and broken into a slot machine – taking an unknown amount of cash.
On 14 December last month, Lea handed himself into police at Central Police Station
and confessed to the burglary under caution, stating he took around £700 in cash
