Local Man Imprisoned For 12 Years For Domestic Abuse Offences

Thirty-five-year-old Richard Valarino, of Churchill House, appeared before the Supreme Court today and was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment.
VALARINO had been found Guilty at an earlier court appearance on 19th February 2026 in respect of the following offences:
• One count of Rape
• One count of Assault by Penetration
• One count of Controlling or Coercive Behaviour
• One count of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (ABH)
The offences related to incidents that took place between 2023 and 2024, and which led to VALARINO’s arrest on 29th December 2024 following an extensive investigation by detectives from the RGP’s Safeguarding Team.
The RGP continues to encourage anyone experiencing any form of domestic abuse, or anyone who may be aware of and/or may be in possession of information regarding someone who may a victim, to report the matter to us.
Our message is: You are not alone; the RGP is committed to safeguarding vulnerable people and reducing harm, working alongside our key partners where necessary.
Our officers, including specialist investigators, will listen, support, and act to bring perpetrators to justice.
