Mar 04 - Senior Ranks Restructure for RGP

ci cathal yeats The RGP is set to restructure its Senior ranks and bring back the rank of Chief Superintendent as from the 1st April 2014. The Senior Management team led by the Commission will then consist of the Chief Superintendent and three Superintendents. With this change in place, Chief Inspector Cathal Yeats, who has served in the Operations and Crime Divisions, will be promoted to the rank of Superintendent on 1st October 2014.

As a detective, Superintendent Yeats has served with the Financial Crime Unit, the Criminal Investigation Department and Special Branch. Mr. Yeats was currently the Staff Officer to the Commissioner, and the Media Officer.

The rank of Chief Superintendent will be filled on an acting basis until the 1st of October 2014 at which point a selection process will take place. During the intervening months Superintendent Richard Mifsud will initially act as Chief Superintendent for half of the period followed by Superintendent McGrail for the remainder. The CS will deputise for the Commissioner and have responsibility for discipline, policy formulation and management as well as other aspects of internal service delivery.

One of the five Chief Inspector posts will be abolished in lieu of the new Chief Superintendent post. The Civil Service contingent led by the Senior Executive Officer will take on additional administrative responsibilities allowing the Police senior officers to focus more exclusively on operational police matters.

Each of the Superintendents will head a division; for now Superintendent Ullger will head Operations, Superintendent Yeats will head Crime and Protective Services and the third superintendent will head the Headquarters Division.
