Apr 07 - RGP Help In Sea Rescue Outside Territorial Waters
Yesterday, at about 3:20 pm, an RGP Marine crew whilst out on patrol in the area off Europa Point overheard a report being made from Spanish Maritime Rescue service over the Marine Band radio concerning a Search and Rescue operation in progress searching for a 6 metre vessel which was white in colour and drifting 5nm East off Europa Point.
The RGP vessel with the assistance of Windmill Hill Signal Station located the vessel approximately 6nm South West of Europa Point and proceeded to ensure that the crew, made up of two Spanish nationals, were safe and sound.
The Spanish Maritime Service was contacted and the vessel was then towed by them to the Port of Algeciras.
This is yet another occasion where the RGP have assisted in ensuring the safety of mariners even where it involves deploying our resources outside its jurisdictional waters (BGTW).
