May 09 - Spaniards Charged and Convicted for Prohibited RHIB Importation
Two Spanish nationals appeared at the Magistrates Court this morning on a charge of Importing a Prohibited Import, namely a 6.7 metre Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) powered by a 200 bhp Yamaha outboard engine.
Brian Martos Carmona, aged 24, a Spanish national resident in Algeciras, and Angel Luis Sanchez Corrales, aged 22, a Spanish national also resident in Algeciras, were arrested by officers of the RGP Marine Section yesterday afternoon when the RHIB was sighted two miles off Europa Point. An RGP Interceptor headed towards the RHIB and once intercepted officers boarded the vessel where it was then seen to be carrying 21 jerry cans of fuel.
The men were arrested and taken into custody as a vessel of these characteristics is a prohibited import.
Both pleaded guilty in court this morning and were fined £2,000 each. The RHIB and all its equipment have been forfeited.
