New Interpretation Centre Opens At Europa Point

The centre is open Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 1pm, with guided lighthouse tours expected later this summer.

The Gibraltar Heritage Trust, in collaboration with the Department of the Environment and the  Ministry for Heritage, is delighted to announce the opening of the Interpretation Centre at Europa  Point, marking the first stage in an exciting new visitor experience that will soon include guided  tours of Gibraltar's iconic Trinity House Lighthouse. 

For the first time, visitors will have regular access to a dedicated space exploring Gibraltar's rich  maritime heritage, the strategic importance of the Strait of Gibraltar, and the vital role the  lighthouse has played in safeguarding shipping at the gateway to the Mediterranean. 

The Centre will initially be open Monday to Wednesday from 9.00am to 1.00pm, welcoming  residents and visitors throughout the morning. Opening hours will be extended as the full  lighthouse tour programme is introduced over the summer. The space provides video displays with  footage of Gibraltar’s marine environment, as well as information on the lighthouse and footage of  its interior. 

The space provides the space for school groups to learn about Gibraltar’s natural environment as  part of the Department of the Environment’s outreach and school programme. Additionally, an  information and interpretation office and souvenir space is offered for visitors and tourists to the  area, promoting Gibraltar’s wider history and heritage.

It  offers visitors the opportunity to discover Gibraltar's remarkable maritime story while providing a  glimpse of the exciting lighthouse experience that will soon be available. We’re excited  not only by what has already been achieved, but by the potential this project has for the future and  the positive impact it will have on the area for years to come.”

The opening of this Interpretation Centre is an excellent example of that ambition becoming a reality. The Gibraltar Heritage Trust is delivering the wider lighthouse project in partnership with Trinity  House and Wright Tech Media Ltd, combining heritage, technology and storytelling to create a  unique visitor experience at one of Gibraltar's most recognisable landmarks.
