Royal Gibraltar Regiment Fires 21 Gun Salute For Queen Camilla’s Birthday

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment carried out a traditional 21 Gun Salute at His Majesty’s Naval Base Gibraltar to mark Queen Camilla’s official birthday.

On Friday 17 July, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s Headquarters Company (Thomson’s  Battery) fired a 21 Gun Salute at His Majesty’s Naval Base, Gibraltar, to mark the official  birthday of Her Majesty Queen Camilla. 

The ceremony was conducted in accordance with long-standing military tradition and  brought together members of the Regiment, His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and  British Forces Gibraltar to commemorate the occasion. 

The Regiment was honoured to welcome the Chief Secretary of His Majesty’s Government  of Gibraltar, Mr Glendon Martinez, who attended as the Inspecting Officer. Following the  inspection of the gun detachments and confirmation that all was in readiness, the ceremony  commenced. 

At exactly 1200 hrs, the Gun Position Officer, Captain Alfred Garro, gave the order for the  first round to be fired, beginning the traditional 21 Gun Salute. 

The event held additional significance for those involved, as Captain Garro, who  commanded the salute, is the cousin of the Inspecting Officer, Mr Glendon Martinez, making  the occasion a particularly memorable one for both families and the Regiment. 

Following the ceremony, attendees were hosted by Commander British Forces Gibraltar,  Commodore Tim Davey RN, in what marked his first formal Royal Gun Salute since  assuming command just two weeks earlier.
