New Public Electric Vehicle Charging Points Installed At Europa Point And Ragged Staff

Three new electric vehicle charging points have been installed at Europa Point and Ragged Staff.

The Ministry of Transport is pleased to announce the completion and commissioning of three new on street public electric vehicle (EV) charging points at key locations across Gibraltar. Two charging points have been installed at Europa Point, adjacent to the children’s park, while a further charging point has been introduced within the Pay & Display Zone at Ragged Staff. 

These new facilities form part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transport options, while continuing to expand Gibraltar’s public EV charging network in accessible and convenient locations. 

The charging points are clearly signposted, with user instructions displayed at each location to assist motorists with operation and charging procedures. The bays are reserved specifically for actively charging electric vehicles, and users are reminded to follow all operational guidance and parking conditions displayed on site. 

The expansion of public charging infrastructure supports the objectives outlined in the Sustainable Traffic, Transport and Parking Plan (STTPP), which identifies the promotion of low-emission vehicles and the gradual transition towards cleaner mobility solutions as an important component of Gibraltar’s wider transport and environmental strategy. Increasing the availability and visibility of charging infrastructure is considered essential in encouraging greater uptake of electric vehicles across the community. 

The introduction of additional roadside charging facilities provides several benefits to users and the wider public, including greater convenience and accessibility for EV owners, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, lower vehicle emissions, and improving local air quality. Supporting the use of electric vehicles also contributes towards Gibraltar’s broader sustainability and climate objectives by helping reduce the environmental impact of road transport. 

The Ministry will continue to assess demand and usage patterns across the existing charging network in order to identify further opportunities for expansion in other areas of Gibraltar as EV adoption continues to increase. 

Minister for Transport, the Hon John Cortes, said: "We are leading the transition to electric vehicles by phasing in electric buses and supporting the electrification of the taxi fleet. Now, the introduction of these additional public charging points is another positive step in supporting the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transport in Gibraltar. Expanding the availability of accessible charging infrastructure is essential if we are to encourage greater uptake of electric vehicles and reduce emissions from road transport.
