Ocean Village Supports University Of Gibraltar Marine Science Activities

Ocean Village is supporting the University of Gibraltar’s marine science programmes by providing a complimentary berth at Ocean Village Marina for the University’s research vessels.
The berth is being used as a base for practical learning and fieldwork by students on the BSc Applied Marine Science and MSc Marine Science and Climate Change programmes. The two organisations are also exploring longer-term collaboration in marine conservation, research and community engagement.
A statement follows below:
Ocean Village is supporting the University of Gibraltar’s marine science activities by providing a complimentary berth at Ocean Village Marina, giving students and staff essential access to local waters for practical learning and research.
The berth has been in active use by the University since last year, serving as an operational base for its small tender. More recently, the berth welcomed the University’s vessel, Captain Graham, significantly expanding the institution’s operational capacity for fieldwork and sea based research.
The vessels directly support practical learning for students enrolled in the University’s BSc (Hons) Applied Marine Science and MSc Marine Science and Climate Change programmes. Situated at the junction of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the University’s School of Marine and Environmental Science leverages Gibraltar’s unique marine biodiversity to bridge classroom theory with hands-on experience.
Ocean Village director, Ed Allison-Wright said “We are delighted to support the University of Gibraltar by providing a home for their marine research vessels. Ocean Village is passionate about our local marine ecosystem, and partnering with the next generation of marine scientists is a natural fit for us.”
Looking ahead, Ocean Village and the University are discussing longer-term collaborative projects focused on marine conservation, research and community engagement.
Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University Prof Catherine Bachleda said “We are deeply grateful to Ocean Village for providing this berth and supporting our commitment to marine education. We are also excited about the potential for our relationship to develop further as we explore opportunities for longer-term collaboration.”
This partnership highlights the University’s commitment to collaborating with local industry leaders to deliver real-world learning opportunities while contributing to Gibraltar’s wider maritime and environmental community.
