Oct 21 - Gabriel Moreno Makes His Literary Festival Debut
The Gibraltarian poet, singer and songwriter Gabriel Moreno made his Gibraltar International Literary Festival debut this afternoon with a wide-ranging talk at the Convent.
Moreno spoke about the poets and places that had influenced his writing. In particular, he spoke about a trip across Italy in 2005 which resulted in his latest book of poems “The Moon and the Sparrow.”
Moreno explained that he came to love words, language and poetry through his teenage passion for music. He added that one of the formative moments in his career was his encounter with the works of Lorca at university.
Accompanied by Barbara Bartz on the violin, Moreno recited some of his poetry while providing a commentary on how his poems had developed and were a way of expressing his identity as a Gibraltarian - a richly complex identity which fused both English and Spanish aspects.
The Gibraltar international Literary Festival continues until Sunday. For more info visit: http://www.gibraltarliteraryfestival.com
