Jul 18 - The Voice Winner Kevin Simm To Perform At Summer Nights
Kevin Simm, the winner of The Voice UK in 2016, is set to perform in tomorrow’s Summer Nights event in Casemates.
Kevin will be joined by the GAMPA Youth Choir, Danza Academy, Ella Vinet, Jovani Lagomassino and others (pictured below). The event starts at 8:30pm.
Organisers sent us this short interview with Kevin about his The Voice experience and how he’s looking forward to performing locally.
What has winning The Voice done for you ?
Kevin: It has given me a little bit more of a profile so has made it much better for work, hence me coming over to Gibraltar to do a show for you. It has also given me a little more confidence to just go out and do what I do rather than before the voice where I felt like every gig was an audition to prove to people that I could sing. Obviously coming from a pop band, there is a general opinion that you can’t sing.
Would you encourage others to go through the talent shows experience and why?
Kevin: I wouldn’t discourage people for sure… but I would say, be prepared and make sure this sort of thing is right for you. Obviously I had had lots of experience in the industry before and have an idea of how TV works too, I have had many ups and equally as many downs and disappointments which prepared me for the good parts of doing a TV talent show as well as the bad side of it all. You see many people who think that a little TV exposure will sort them for life but even if you win a show there are no guarantees.
What are your thoughts about performing on the Rock?
Kevin: I am really looking forward to performing on the Rock! I have never been to Gibraltar before so it will be nice to visit a new place and meet the people who live there. I have heard a lot about the monkeys so I hope they won’t be coming!
